The latest nondrupa announcement to be made in the wake of the show’s cancellation, comes from Xeikon.
The SX3000 press is the first implementation of Sirius, Xeikon’s next generation dry toner technology introduced last year. The SX3000 is a single pass duplex machine, printing a 508mm width and running at 30 metres/minute. It prints 1200 x 3600 dpi on substrates from 40-350gsm and will be available in June 2020.
This machine has been under development since 2017 and is over 50% faster than Xeikon’s previous platform, according to the company. In its basic design this press retains the best bits of its predecessor, including water cooled Laser Diode Arrays and the 5/5 print station set up. But all else “has been re-engineered” according to Dimitri Van Gaever, market segment manager for Xeikon. He adds that “One of the things that really sets the Sirius technology apart is its ability to print on heavy substrates at high speeds.”
Compared to the 9000 series, Sirius incorporates over 400 design changes and developments, with major advances in toner, imaging and fusing technologies as well as media conditioning. Xeikon’s goal has been to improve Total Cost of Ownership and part of this is a new fuser technology called EkoFuse which has a new crossflow cooling system. EkoFuse is part of why the new press can produce very high quality output at speed, even on heavier substrates.
Xeikon has also upgraded its Cheetah platform and the first new press based on Cheetah 2.0 is the Xeikon CX300 designed for a production capacity of 50,000 square metres per month in single shift operation. This label press boasts high productivity and high Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). The new platform combines high speed with high OEE for minimising wasted output and has five print stations, CMYK plus opaque white, using Xeikon’s renowned rotary process, so repeat lengths can be varied. This dry toner press runs at 30 metres/minute and web width can vary from 2200 mm to 512mm. An LED imaging head prints 1200 x 3600 for superb output quality. Xeikon has also upgraded the user interface for remote operations including prompts and the integration of pre and post press equipment. Quality control is integrated, including registration, density and colour tone curve adjustments, and data capture and management run in the cloud.
The CX300 can also be configured for flexible pouch production, blending dry toner printing and thermal lamination using Xeikon’s Flexflow process for inline lamination and based on the X500 Digital Front End.
